Governance

The Polk Institute Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Directors committed to transparency, integrity, and the mission of training social entrepreneurs.

Organizational Structure

The Foundation is led by a Board of Directors that sets strategic direction, ensures fiscal responsibility, and upholds the organization's commitment to the Triple Bottom Line — People, Planet, and Profit. Day-to-day operations are managed by the Executive Director and program staff.

Board Responsibilities

  • Setting mission, vision, and strategic priorities
  • Overseeing financial management and budget approval
  • Hiring and evaluating the Executive Director
  • Ensuring compliance with nonprofit law and 501(c)(3) requirements
  • Representing community interests and stakeholder voices

Conflict of Interest

All board members and key staff sign annual conflict-of-interest disclosures. Related-party transactions are reviewed and approved by disinterested board members in accordance with nonprofit best practices.

Transparency

As a public charity, we are committed to openness in our operations. Our Form 990 filings and audited financial statements are available upon request. We publish annual impact reports to share program outcomes with donors, partners, and the communities we serve.
